AMPED SUGS Program
This page provides information and application guidance for the Sequential Undergraduate-Graduate Studies program that is available to current University of Michigan undergraduate students on the Ann Arbor campus.
Students applying from outside of the University of Michigan should refer to the general information provided on the Apply page.

Current University of Michigan undergraduate students in the following departments are eligible for SUGS:
Biomedical Engineering
Cellular and Molecular Biomedical Science (CMBS)
Chemical Engineering
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Industrial and Operations Engineering
Materials Science and Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences
Robotics
Before You Apply:
Make an appointment with Tara McQueen (tarac@umich.edu), AMPED Academic Advisor/Counselor, to discuss this program and ensure that it fits your career goals and plans. A student may also be referred to a faculty graduate advisor for further assistance.
SCHEDULE AN ADVISING APPPOINTMENT
Application Requirements:
Senior Standing (85+ hours)
Students may not begin SUGS if they need more than one course (no more than 4 credit hours) to complete the BSE
GPA of 3.2 or above
Biology 172 or 174 or AP biology credit for Biology 195
One Advanced Biology or Chemistry course* (ex, microbiology, immunology, genetics, organic chemistry, or biochemistry)
*For students in Biomedical Engineering BME 221, 418, or 419 will fulfill this requirement
The GRE is not required and will not be accepted with the application.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is waived for students who have already taken it.
SUGS Application Deadlines:
AMPED only admits for the Fall term. Completed SUGS applications are reviewed on a rolling basis each month until the program capacity has been met. Rolling application deadlines are:
February 1
March 1
April 1
May 1 – final deadline to apply
Students are encouraged to apply early. Admission is not guaranteed. Biomedical Engineering faculty will review your application.
Preparing Your Application:
SUGS program applicants need to provide:
Personal Statement
Academic Statement of Purpose (please address your interest in the AMPED program and how it will help you attain your career and educational objectives)
Name and email address for two faculty members who will write letters of recommendation (a third letter is optional)
